Duty of Care: A K9 Thriller Where Love and Loyalty Collide (Rex Dalton K9 Thrillers Book 6) Kindle Edition
During a trip to Rome, Dalton unexpectedly crosses paths with Catia Romano, the captivating woman who stole his heart many years before. Their reunion rekindles long-buried emotions, though it takes a sharp turn when he receives urgent news: Rex's former CRC colleagues need him. His old boss, the influential CEO of CRC, ominously known as the Old Man, has been abducted under mysterious circumstances.
As the stakes escalate and time slips away, Dalton finds himself torn between two worlds. On the one hand, his duty of care, and on the other, the possibility of a different life, one filled with warmth and love alongside Catia.
With the clock ticking down, Dalton’s exceptional military skills and his unbreakable bond with Digger, his steadfast K9 companion, are tested like never before. Navigating a web of deception and peril, he must determine where his true loyalties lie and whether he can forge a future free from the shadows of his past.
Duty of Care is the pulse-pounding seventh instalment in JC Ryan’s electrifying Rex Dalton K9 Thrillers series.

Sheila LS - Top Contributor. Can't Read This Series Fast Enough!! I had no idea these books were so good when I first started or I would not have already downloaded other Kindle Unlimited books... I haven't read any series as exciting as Ty Patterson's Warrior series until now.
You really need to start reading this series from the beginning because what happened to Rex in this first book is what made him the way he is. He is a very determined person and does not stop at anything to take down the bad guys--especially if they are terrorist or if it is a group that is funding terrorist. Even though this is his main mindset, he still wants to protect the innocent that inadvertently get in the way...
Texas - This author belongs on the same shelf as Ludlum and Follette and those other guys! My first read by this author and I couldn't put the book down! Mesmerized by the writing style, the vivid descriptions and the storylines, I read without stopping. Fast paced, action packed and interesting on several facets.
Margaret Bentley - I love reading about Rex Dalton's exploits, but my favorite character has to be Digger, his military-trained super-intelligent dog.
Greg D - Rex Dalton was the deadliest agent the government had at their disposal- a one-man unstoppable force in the war on terrorism in the Middle East. With his famous ability to pick up new languages with ease, he figures he can blend into almost any culture and root out evil. What could go wrong? Well, it turns out, plenty.
E. I. HOOD - I was not a fan of the first Rex Dalton book but plunged ahead with the second hoping JC Ryan would not disappoint. I loved it. Now here I am after reading the third book in this series. I had a hard time putting it down and found myself wondering about it when I was not reading.
40 year pioneer - Each book in this series gets even better. This has a fascinating, even though hard to fathom, plot, worked out in intricate detail. Rex Dalton is a mirror of all of us - overcoming seemingly overwhelming odds to achieve great things.
Kindle Customer - From a master storyteller comes another thrilling ride by Rex Dalton. From the sands of Afghanistan to the culture of India the story moves at a breathless pace. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.
Kindle Customer - Rex Dalton rocks! Another great read from JC Ryan. I've read all of his books and am never disappointed! All I can say is....MORE!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2019After being incognito for over 14 months and traveling all over the globe, Rex and Digger move on to Rome as Rex intends to meet with a former colleague Catia. Just as Rex spots her and is about to meet her, he gets a call from Rehka in Mumbai, India telling him that Josh and Marissa have been in touch with her with the intention of tracing Rex as the chief of CRC , John Brandt aka the Old man, has been kidnapped in Greece where he was attending a clandestine and strategic meeting with his former colleagues referred to as the Oldtimers. Just as he steps out of the hotel they are all staying in, John is kidnapped. Josh and Marissa are informed about it and instructed to bring back Rex when they find him for rescuing John Brandt. When told about this by an apologetic, apprehensive and worried Rehka, Rex assures her that he will take care of the matters.
He talks directly with Josh to get all the facts and starts making plans. As always, Rex is very meticulous in his planning, decides to install an operation headquarters in Lyon in France in the guesthouse of Bert and Adele, relatives of Margot, an old friend of his from a previous adventure! He gets his IT guru Rehka from India to man the technical side of the rescue operations. He talks with Chris McArdle, deputy director and the head of CRC in the absence of the Old man, details his plans, makes it clear that he will work only on his terms, tells Chris to set up another operation headquarters in CRC in Arizona, USA.
Time is of the essence as they are aware of the probable torture the Old man is being subjected to.
Once Rehka manages to successfully get into the network of the villain who has masterminded the whole kidnapping to get some crucial information out of John Brandt and they witness the shocking condition of John Brandt, Rex starts planning the actual rescue operations.
The electrifying rescue operations- are they successful ? - do they get to the Old man before it is too late are all questions that will be answered as the readers read this thoroughly enjoyable, blood-tingling book to its conclusion. It is an easy task with its excellent narrative and the characters involved, the most fascinating of whom is Digger as he scales new heights of achievement in this adventure.
Thank you for yet another superlative book, Mr. Ryan.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2021Rex Dalton and his dog Digger, are in Rome to try to reconnect with a love he had to leave four years ago. Rex was a special ops agent for CRC, a private clandestine organization, who works as an independent contract agency for the CIA and other intelligence agencies worldwide. On Rex's last assignment for the CRC, his whole team was ambushed and he and Digger were the only survivors, although everyone believes he was killed in the ambush. Rex is convinced he was sold out by his former boss, the head of CRC, John Brandt aka the Old Man. Being confused, Rex decides to stay dead until he can figure out what to do and begins traveling the world tourist style. When Brandt gets kidnapped in Greece, Rex is tracked down by CRC, after finding evidence he is still alive, to help rescue Brandt from his kidnappers. Rex puts together a team of his trusted former colleagues and associates and begins his search for Brandt.
The book was a thriller at every step of the saga. There is a lot of action and emotion to keep the reader turning the pages and wanting more. JC Ryan did an excellent job of twisting the plotline but yet kept it within reason. There is a lot of graphic violence in the book, so be warned. I recommend JC Ryan thrillers and am on to the next.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2022Rex Dalton, ex-CRC black op, is presumed dead after an ambush where seven of his close friends were killed. He goes underground for 14 months believing his former CRC boss, the head of CRC, sold him out. John Brandt, “the Old Man,” is then abducted which brings a group together to rescue him before he is tortured. Information on their operations, agents, Federal agencies, and drug lords could be devasting for many if the Old Man spills what is in his head. It is a matter of life and death and time is of the essence.
After finding evidence Rex is still alive, Rex is tracked down to put together a special team to rescue John Brandt from his kidnappers. Does Rex have a “duty of care” for John that use to treat him like a son or is this a ploy to bring him back into the CRC? Rex and his recently acquired military trained attack dog, Digger and his best friend, decide to help then plan to disappear again. He will only work on his terms by setting up an operations headquarters in France, gets his IT guru for the technical aspect of the rescue, and tells CRC to set up an operation headquarters. You will get all the details of how they go about locating where the Old Man is being held, their plan to rescue him, but the question is do they succeed in time?
This is the first book in the series I read. Therefore, I was slightly confused, at the beginning, but I reached a point I really got into the book. There were editing errors and a great deal of graphic violence. If you can handle that, this book contains much action and emotion that you will want to read it to the end.

It seemed the first half of the book was more of summarising the previous book but second half was great action.

Another exciting tale from J C Ryan. Rex and Digger get into some scrapes and gather more friends to help bring the crooks down and out. Better not to be needing sleep as you have to keep reading to find out how he defeats his enemies . Gripping read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Rex Dalton is awesome!
Character build and development of Rex et al is excellent. A bit heavy on the super man qualities at times but the story keeps moving at a break neck pace.
The negative—way too much rehashing of the story at intervals through to the three quarter mark in he book. Recaps not need3d for those that are reading this genre except perhaps at the beginning of the next book.
Overall, a good read.

JC Ryan writes books with very interesting characters in them. In this series his star has 4 legs and is named Digger. I have enjoyed the series and look forward to the next one.
